Description

Details

Judith Beck's winery is in Gols in Burgenland. They are a 15 hectare estate and have been working using biodynamics since 2007. The philosophy is one born of attention to detail and respect for the environment and their native grapes and soil. Judith Beck herself studied abroad at places like Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux and Errazuriz in Chile but returned home to take over from her father and take the winery forward embracing the new wave of natural wine making.

Judith Beck works according to biodynamic principals and uses local grape varieties, including St Laurent, Zweigelt and Weissburgunder. She really goes against the grain of Austrian tastes, creating wines of elegance, and finesse. She’s experimenting with carbonic maceration, bottling without filtration and different varieties. Her reds are juicy and fresh with supple tannins and her whites are rich and wonderfully aromatic. Notably, she doesn’t use any stainless steel in her wines, believing they need to be allowed to breathe. Importantly for us, they are low in sulphur, produced without chemical intervention, yet are extremely approachable.

'Biodynamics is an art of healing which takes advantage of the holistic creativeness of nature. It aims at strengthening the natural resistance of the plant. Pest and disease control are mainly affected in a prophylactic manner. We encourage the formation of humus, as a basis of healthy soils, by regularly applying cattle manure which we prepare ourselves and by cultivating grass between the rows. Herbal teas (such as stinging nettle, chamomile, field horsetail … ) and biodynamic field sprays such as horn manure and horn silica are used under the consideration of moon rhythms; their purpose being to strengthen resistance and further the physiological ripeness of grapes. It is our foremost aim to produce authentic wines with an individual aroma profile while at the same time maintaining healthy soil and vines. Part of this is also the absence of unnatural yeasts.' - Judith Beck

She’s got quite a following in the wine world, and for good reason. She even remarked how amazed she was that her wines were being sold in France, which was something she never expected! Like all our mixed cases, we knock a fair bit off so the value is great, enjoy! £227 INC DELIVERY TO MAINLAND UK.
