Details

Afrodite Vespolina DOC Paride Chiovini, rare grape, crunchy and sharp, bristling red fruits, Vespolina comes from Vespa meaning wasp, a reference to the stingy freshness of the wine, sensational with fatty Italian stews with Polenta. Made from a lesser known grape variety, Vespolina - known locally as Ughetta, this Afrodite is as tenacious as the goddess who lends her name to the wine. Decisive yet delicate, fresh and fruity with fantastic contrast provided by notes of pepper and cinnamon spices. Dry and persistent with a pleasant, subtle bitterness at the end. The wine is aged in stainless steel for 9 months and best drunk within 2 years to enjoy its youthful vivacity.

Production at Chiovini was started when Giuseppe Garibaldi took over his grandfather's vineyard as a hobby, gradually expanding to a full time venture, where he now holds 3 hectares of land. Many of his wines are named after Greek gods and heroes of Ancient Greece to reflect their unmistakable personalities which all stem from a common root. Today the vineyard is maintained with respect for the land and all the operations on the vines are performed by hand. The vineyards are in Ghemme, one of the few regions of the World outside of the Langhe in which Nebbiolo can truly thrive and produce classy wines. Honest and full of style, these wines represent the true taste of Piemonte.
