Biodynamic Austrian wine from Gut Oggau, Atanasius, Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch, rich and elegant. Atanasius is made very simply in stainless steel with natural yeast to produce a stunning rich yet smooth wine with Burgundy like finesse. Charming and open, affectionate and gentle. Very attractive on the palate, not shallow, has developed structure, but hasn't tapped his full potential yet. Although with each passing year, Atanasius gets slightly more mature, full bodied and serious. Every vintage retains its confidence, straight forward nature and youthful spirit. Delicious red, impossible not to enjoy. The 14 is superb and this wine really is maturing with each passing year Atanasius is becoming more like his Father, Joschuari, a really quite full bodied and mature red wine.

Gut Oggau is a 14 hectare Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake Neusiedl. The estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie, daughter of a 2 Michelin star restaurant owner. It is a certified biodynamic estate with each wine coming from a single plot of vines with different terroirs showing different expressions in the wine. The individual personalities of the wine are expressed in the faces on the labels created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and brought together in the Gut Oggau family tree. A unique and fascinating way of describing the wines, they taste every bit as intriguing as the labels suggest.

  2. How good is this wine?

Firstly the wine was delivered incredibly quickly, can't fault the website or service. The wine itself was lovely. Fruity, funky fun natural wine. Easy to drink but very enjoyable.

  3. How good is this wine?

Smashing blaufränkisch from cult bio producer Gut Oggau. The "Andy Murray" (as I like to call it) shows deep dark fruits with well-balanced acidity and hints of (delicious) farmyard funkiness. A real crowd pleaser at a recent dinner - lovely food accompaniment

  4. How good is this wine?

black fruits, lovely tannins, some spice, and a long finish. Beautifully executed, a good surprise!

  5. How good is this wine?

This bottle of red was recommended by a waiter whilst chatting about wine. Enjoyed this sat in front of a log burner - smooth easy drinking fruity red. Dark in colour and lovely oaky taste.
