Atanasius Magnum Oggau Biodynamic wine from Gut Oggau, Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch, rich and elegant. Atanasius is made very simply in stainless steel with natural yeast to produce a stunning rich yet smooth wine with Burgundy like finesse. Charming and open, affectionate and gentle. Very attractive on the palate, not shallow, has developed structure, but hasn't tapped his full potential yet. Although with each passing year, Atanasius gets slightly more mature, full bodied and serious. Every vintage retains its confidence, straight forward nature and youthful spirit. Delicious red, impossible not to enjoy. The 15 is superb and this wine really is maturing with each passing year Atanasius is becoming more like his Father, Joschuari, a really quite full bodied and mature red wine. In the magnum, it will age beautifully.

Gut Oggau is a 14 hectare Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake neusiedlersee. The estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie, daughter of a 2 Michelin star restaurant owner. It is a certified biodynamic estate with each wine coming from a single plot of vines with different terroirs showing different expressions in the wine. The individual personalities of the wine are expressed in the faces on the labels created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and brought together in the Gut Oggau family tree. A unique and fascinating way of describing the wines, they taste every bit as intriguing as the labels suggest.

1Reviews For Atanasius Oggau 2018 MAGNUM

  1. How good is this wine?

Prim black fruit, cherry, orange pith & earth sitting firmly in the pinot noir/nebbiolo range. A tiny wisp of wildness, no overbearing brett or VA or grousey game, but just a touch of something of mushroom and soil to remind you its grown in dirt and fermented. Long, elegant, tapering to a nice clean acidic finish that's a food dream. Lovely with winter game & squash, but light and tight enough to carry into summer fruit and fish.
