Auxerrois Enderle & Moll 2018 (Skin Contact White Wine), biodynamic wine, 2 weeks skin contact, low sulphites. A fascinating expression of Auxerrois, a lesser known grape originating in the Alsace-Lorraine, and now grown in parts of Alsace, Germany and Luxembourg. It is the same genetic ancestry as Chardonnay and also goes by the longer name of Auxerrois Blanc de Laquenexy, (bit of a mouth full). This excellent skin contact version from Enderle and Moll spends a minimum two weeks on the skins and then matured for about 9 months in steel tanks and barrels. SO2 is very low about 10mg/litre at bottling.
Sven Enderle and Florian Moll met at wine school and after travelling separably to learn their craft at various wineries in Germany and abroad, they came back together to jump on an opportunity to establish their five hectares of vines in Munchweier on the slopes of the Black Forest in Baden. Here the soils are sandstone and limestone and are capable of producing Pinot Noir with lift and elegance and also different terroir expressions. Sven and Florian bottle 5 different expressions of Pinot with some 60 year old vines at the Muschelkalk and Buntsandstein vineyards. They work their vines biodynamiclly and ferment and age the wines in barrels sourced from the Dujac estate in Burgundy. However, they are not aiming for Burgundy style wine, rather their own unique expressions of light and elegant Pinot Noir which is atypical for the area of Baden.
