Barbaresco La Ca Nova, Traditional Barbaresco, 100% Nebbiolo old barrels, long maceration, elegant style. The standard label Barbaresco from the Rocca family is more about elegance than power with Nebbiolo's delicate floral and red fruit characteristics coming to the fore. This wine demonstrates that traditional Nebbiolo is still being produced by the region's small family producers and that the noble production methods of long maceration, indigenous yeast, and old oak 'botti' are still alive and thriving. Ca Nova' Barbaresco's always have an earthy undertone which gives them great character and a sense of their origins and terroir. A beautiful wine for 'Tradizionalisti' and Nebbiolo fanatics!
Up on a ridge above the town of Barbaresco in Piemonte, three brothers Pietro, Giulio and Franco Rocca preside over 12 hectares of ancient vineyards. They produce some of the best and most authentic Barbaresco available, as well as producing Dolcetto and Barbera, among other local varieties. The vines are cultivated with the upmost respect for tradition, with careful selection of the grapes that go into the wine, and no chemical treatment on the vineyard. Although their cellar has been modernised to take advantage of the latest winebmaking technology, it is still housed deep underground so as to take advantage of the natural cool and stable environment.

This is clear & bright young nebbiolo in classic form, without either the overbearing heft of young barolo or the new school sins of barriques. Leather, tar, roses & spring rain on the nose. Body is juicy dried cranberry, clear acidity & balanced brown paper tannins. Excels with decanting and fatty aromatic food (osso bucco + saffron risotto?). Uncomplicated but on point.
