Details

Barbastes Mas des Agrunelles, Chardonnay, Roussanne, Marsanne, Biodynamic, 25mg/litre total sulphur, texture and minerals, ages beautifully. Barbastes is a delicious minerally, leesy white wine. Although there is no oak ageing, the wine has depth and body a plenty, lees stirring and very low yields of the Chardonnay, Roussanne and Marsanne grapes make for a very serious glass of expressive white at this price. You can think of it as an alternative to a Burgundy or a rich Chenin from the Loire, it has amazing acidity too, not easily found in the Languedoc white wines. One of our real favourites, drink with anything!


The story of Mas des Agrunelles is an incredible one. Frédéric Porro was an aspiring Motor-cross rider until an accident left him in a wheelchair. His disability led him to a new passion - wine - after his sister asked him to put together the wine list for he restaurant. From that moment on, he became devoted to the grape. Mas des Agrunelles came about from his collaboration with Stéphanie Ponson – owner of Mas Nicot – in 2005 near Murles in Languedoc. They usually say about it: 'we first met thanks to wine and now wine unites us'. The name of the estate comes from the fact that there are a lot of wild sloe trees around the vineyards and sloe is 'Agrunelles' in old occitan. The 18 hectares of vineyards are on a dozen of plots and the vines are planted on clay and limestone soils. Work is biodynamic in the vineyards with traditional methods of ploughing with horses and no chemicals at all.
