Barbera d'Alba Superiore Elio Sandri, natural, intense ruby red with hints of purple, black currants, spicy dark chocolate! Sites like these tend to be dedicated to growing Nebbiolo for Barolo, but here Elio Sandri decided to sacrifice this plot of land to grow some excellent Barbera. The wine is high in alcohol, made from low, but very rich yields, giving intense blackcurrant flavours, crunchy acidity, hints of dark chocolate and supple tannins. The wines of Elio Sandri are always authentic and grown with respect for the environment.
Cascina Disa in Monforte d'Alba was a settlement of Monks of the Abbey of Breme at the beginning of the 15th century, and even then was used for wine production. Since 1965 it has become the heart of the Sandri family winery, that continues the ancient wine-growing traditions of the area. Elio now makes his wines with the highest respect for nature and for tradition, eschewing industrial methods. The Sandri estate makes elegant wines that combine the feminine aromas of great Nebbiolo with the masculine structure of a serious full bodied red wine. Superb for hearty meat dishes, truffles, game and strong Piemontese cheese.
