Details

Barolo DOCg Acclivi Burlotto, 100% Nebbiolo, single vineyard wine, Verduno vineyards. The Acclivi is perhaps the most elegant of the Burlotto Cru wines. The aromas are complex with notes of berries, menthol, balsamic, leather and spice. The palate is very fresh and it is always a wine that will mature beautifully. Acclivi is a blend of a few vineyard sites in the town of Verduno and is the wine which Fabio believes is emerging as the quintessential representation of the Burlotto style being all from vineyards around the town where they are based.A delicious and fine example of the 'Wine of Kings, King of Wines.

G.B. Burlotto, after whom the estate derives its name, was something of a superstar in his day, but after his death in the 1920s, the name faded somewhat. Today, Burlotto has once again risen to stardom thanks to the brilliant and highly traditional approach of his great-great-grandson, Fabio Alessandria. Fabio's approach, whilst making use of some modern innovations, is very traditional. At the heart of his technique is a gentle crushing of all the grapes by foot, long macerations of up to 60 days, and long ageing in large wood botte, rather than the smaller barrels which are more fashionable today. This approach is pretty unique today. All of his wines display astonishing purity. The estate is comprised of 30 acres, 24 most of which are in the commune of Verduno.
