Barolo Monvigliero Burlotto, Natural Wine, Traditional Barolo, a Mythical vineyard, a must try for Barolo Lovers. A mystical vineyard and perhaps the jewel in Burlotto's crown. It is a vineyard of 20 hectares; it is a place that gives Barolo a spicy and elegant character. The soil is a combination of white silt, limestone and sand. The proximity to the Tanaro River creates a microclimate that keeps the grapes cool during the night and adds to the finesse and freshness of the wine. The south facing slopes on white soils mean the day time temperatures are very high but the night time is cool and this diurnal difference of such extremes is what makes Monvigliero unique. Production is small so the wines inevitably disappear in relative youth but if you like Barolo a lot, buy 12 and keep them for as long as you can. Then you will discover something quite beautiful. The 2013 wines have just landed, a heads up, the Monvigliero received very points from a number of wine critics so this wine will go fast!

  1. How good is this wine?

    Richard03/07/2017

Currently (2017) pretending to be a Pinot Noir. Lots of red fruit on the front palate. Lots of length. Fine and elegant. No tannin. Showed more acidity as opened up over an hour. A sublime wine even now.
