Barolo Perno Riserva Elio Sandri, natural Barolo, traditional production, long maceration, deep ethereal aromas and intensity on the palate. Superb for long ageing. In 1937 in the region of Monforte d'Alba on the Surì Disa, a hill at 300 metres above the sea level with exposure at the south-east, they planted vines of Nebbiolo, of the varieties Lampia (80%) and Michet (20%). Today the Sandri family still own 3700 vines of that implantation, from which they manage to produce 3500 bottles of delicious Barolo. The new single vineyard Perno Barolo will reward patience and the investment in time if you leave it a few years to age in the cellar.
Cascina Disa in Monforte d'Alba was a settlement of Monks of the Abbey of Breme at the beginning of the 15th century, and even then was used for wine production. Since 1965 it has become the heart of the Sandri family winery, that continues the ancient wine-growing traditions of the area. Elio now makes his wines with the highest respect for nature and for tradition, eschewing industrial methods. The Sandri estate makes elegant wines that combine the feminine aromas of great Nebbiolo with the masculine structure of a serious full bodied red wine. Superb for hearty meat dishes, truffles, game and strong Piemontese cheese.
