Details

Beaujolais Villages Colonge 375ml HALF BOTTLE, 100% Gamay, light, red fruits, well balanced, lovely easy drinking, can serve chilled. Beaujolais villages can be lack lustre, not this one. The colour is a lovely deep crimson and has a mouth-watering nose of crunchy red fruit and sweet spice. The mouth is lovely and fresh with silky tannins and a rich strawberry jam finish. For under a tenner, this is an excellent glass of summer red wine, and in a half bottle, is perfect for lunch!

The Colonge estate in the commune of Lancié, run by brothers Landry and Samuel, has been in the family since 1789, and straddles four appellations: Fleurie, Beaujolais Villages, Brouilly and Beaujolais. The harvest is still done by hand, and the grapes undergo two sortings to ensure only the best quality grapes make it into the wine. They still use indigenous yeasts and work with respect for nature, though not following a 'natural' regime per se, producing wines of terroir and sustainability.
