Blanc du Casot Le Casot de Mailloles 2016, biodynamic wine, unfiltered, un-fined, un-sulphured, untouched, just pure garrigue, savoury earthy purity, layered fruit and texture, simply delicious. These little garage wines really are such a delight for the palate that love to taste nature in the wine. The Blanc de Casot, a wine of immense complexity as well as simple pleasure is a blend of Grenache Blanc and Gris and Muscat d'Alexandrie. The wines of Le Casot are produced in tiny quantity, difficult to come by and age beautifully, call it the Grand Cru of the Languedoc in its purely natural form, superb white wine.

Le Casot des Mailloles is a 5 hectare estate nestled on the steep walled terraces overlooking the town of Banyuls, named after the traditional stone shelters that dot the vineyards. Made famous by Alain Castex and Ghislaine Magnier who ran the estate from the 1990s until 2015, this is a proper 'garage' winery. The terrain here is steep, so a lot of the work is done manually, and the old vines grow on the unique dark schist found here. They are strictly organic, use natural fermentation and never filter or fined. Suphites are avoided entirely. Production has now been passed on to Jordi Perez, a young winemaker very much in Alain's mould. His first vintage was produced in 2015 and he continues to make wine in the traditions set up by Alain and Ghislaine. With such tiny production, the wines are highly sought after, and for good reason!
