Carignan Familia Cecchin, 100% Carignan, Organic, Low Sulphur, earthy, fresh, genuine Carignan from South America! Carignan Cecchin is a french style wine made in Argentina. Fantastic purity of fruit and natural earthy texture make it very moreish. The wine maker is an Englishman and travels between the two countries making wines from organic grapes with natural yeasts and minimum intervention. By his own admission, he is still learning but he already makes fantastic wine. Bodega Cecchin style is lighter than the norm in Argentina and all the better for it. No stodgy extracted fruit here, just bright red and black berries, well integrated tannins and fresh acidity, delicious.

At Bodega Cecchin, they play Rugby and make wine....although not at the same time. In these parts the oval ball and grapes like Carignan are revered as in areas of the Corbieres and Fitou. Although the origin of the Cecchin family is Italy having emigrated to Argentina in 1910. In 1959 Jorge and Pedro Cecchin fulfilled a dream and bought 11 hectares of vines in Mendoza and the current now much larger estate is run by their grandson Oscar Alberto. They are 100% organic in the vines and also use biodynamic practice in some areas although not all. Ferments are with wild yeast and sulphur use is kept to the bare minimum if at all, (although the 'Sin Sulfiti' Malbec wasn't made in 2014). These are really characterful wines, not the usual Argentinian fruit bomb, full of vitality and vinosity, give em a try, they are lovely.
