Details

Carino Mas des Agrunelles, 80 old vines Carignan, biodynamic production, the pure expression of the Languedoc. Carino is made from 80 year old Carignan vines, rich and rustic but with great acidity and beautifully integrated tannins make for a soft, smooth and rich red wine, perfect for Grilled meat on the BBQ! The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified using classic carbonic maceration prolonged by traditional wine making with daily plunging of the cap. This is adapted with the aim of extracting structure which is missing from a simple carbonic maceration. No yeast is added and the smallest possible amount of sulphur dioxide is used. A lovely wine is the result, perfect for classic roast meat dishes and grilled Mediterranean vegetables like peppers, aubergine and courgette.

The story of Mas des Agrunelles is an incredible one. Frédéric Porro was an aspiring Motorcross rider until an accident left him in a wheelchair. His disability led him to a new passion - wine - after his sister asked him to put together the wine list for he restaurant. From that moment on, he became devoted to the grape. Mas des Agrunelles came about from his collaboration with Stéphanie Ponson – owner of Mas Nicot – in 2005 near Murles in Languedoc. They usually say about it: 'we first met thanks to wine and now wine unites us'. The name of the estate comes from the fact that there are a lot of wild sloe trees around the vineyards and sloe is 'Agrunelles' in old occitan. The 18 hectares of vineyards are on a dozen of plots and the vines are planted on clay and limestone soils. Work is biodynamic in the vineyards with traditional methods of ploughing with horses and no chemicals at all.
