Chateau Laussac, Right Bank Bordeaux, rich, soft Merlot. Laussac are based in the Cotes de Castillon, the far right bank of the Bordeaux region. It is a region dominated by Merlot and this wine is predominantly Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc. It is 90% matured in barrels with quite a high 60% of new wood adding a toasty opulent element to the style but without being sickly or cloying. They farm organically although are not certified and this you feel in the wine, as the balance is very good and despite being a wine of deep colour, body and intensity, there is lovely freshness. A delightful glass of full bodied Claret for hearty meat dishes.

Nicolas and Alexandra Robin own and make the lovely wines at Château Laussac, after studying oenology and refining their craft in various locations around France and Australia. Château de Laussac has 28 hectares under vine and is farmed naturally and organically (unofficially), including green harvesting and what they term 'reasoned culture regarding chemical intervention'. Their wines are delightful, plump and fruity, but without being over-extracted or masked by new oak.
