Chateau La Tour de By Medoc Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, etc, classic Bordeaux flavours, great ageing potential. There are plenty of platitudes about La Tour de By I could mention by famous wine critics and Bordeaux aficionados but needless to say, this is good claret for those who drink claret. The estate is now 55 hectares, not really Buon Vino size but we have always enjoyed these wines since first trying them at a tasting of 2009 Claret at a certain swanky hotel in London. The main thing that struck me and my fellow taster about said event was the fact that whether it be £20 or £75 pounds, all the wines tasted very, very similar. La Tour de By has classic blackcurrant aromas, crimson colour and grainy tannic texture with cigar box, pencil shavings and a bell pepper to boot. For me you get all of this with a good deal of maturity (current vintages tend to be 5-6 years old) and you get it for much less than the same wine from a more exalted chateau. Bordeaux is for the most part about ' The Name', Chateau Tour de By might not be the most prestigious of chateau but it is a very nice glass of high quality and honest claret. Try with Poultry, game, lamb, grilled beef, veal, hard cheese, Roquefort, Camembert, strawberry, chocolate desserts, just about anything.
