Chateau Noaillac Medoc Cru Bourgeois, Cabernet, Merlot, soft succulent style of claret, easy to drink with plenty of fruit and body. Chateau Noaillac is situated in Saint-Vivien-de-Médoc in the northern part of the Medoc which was at one time thought not to have the soils to produce quality wine. In more recent times the area has been rediscovered and Chateau Noaillac a family run estate of some 40 hectares are reaping the rewards. The vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Merlot ( 55%) and Petit Verdot (5%) and the wines coming out on year on year are getting riper richer and more succulent. Excellent benchmark claret, dry, blackcurrant, slightly meaty with just a whiff of pencil! Drinking well now but would reward cellaring for 10 years.

A rising star. Damien, Marc Page’s grandson, took over the running of this property some years ago. Some 40 years ago, they realised that the soil in this northerly part of the Médoc once produced excellent wines and the land had been abandoned. Now with 46 hectares, and the vines becoming older, 20-25 years on average, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, a new chai with rows of temperature controlled stainless steel vats and an immaculate barrel cellar. Château Noaillac is now producing succulent, lovely early drinking claret.
