Nero d'Avola Ciello, fresh, fruity, organic, naturally made red wine from Sicily. Ciello make excellent value organic wines and this entry level Nero d'Avola has bags of crunchy, fresh dark fruits and spice to keep you happy with some simple Italian pasta dishes.

The dynamic Vesco family took over the winery 10 years ago and have since revolutionised the viticultural practices and invested heavily in cutting edge technology for the winery and bottling line. Their hundred hectares of organic vineyards are located high up in the hills above Alcamo. The wines are all certified organic and planted on south-east facing slopes on sandy soils 150 – 300m above sea level. The climate is clearly suited for producing the best quality grapes.

Smooth, easy drinking but with sufficient character to make it interesting. Lower alcohol content unlike most other southern European reds . Our go to table red.

  2. How good is this wine?

My star rating reflects value for money; that is, among wines in this price range, I'd give it four stars, a very good rating. I've been exploring the lower priced wines at Buon Vino and really like this one. Classic Nero flavours and textures. Well made.

  3. How good is this wine?

I'm no connoisseur, but I found this a very pleasant, smooth, easy drinking wine which I look forward to.

  4. How good is this wine?

We loved this wine, I tried it on the recommendation of a friend and it didn’t disappoint.
It was light for red but still full of flavour. We had half with a meal and half on its own-delicious both ways!

  7. How good is this wine?

Enjoyable Nero d'A at a very good price, especially since it's a "natural"

  8. How good is this wine?

A fantastic fresh vibrant red and yet full of character. A great exemple of a Nero d’Avola full of expression a perfect companion to a good taleggio or grilled meat. Fantastic value for money.

This is a lovely wine - low sulphite, not too heavy and no headache! Fully recommend and will buy again.

  10. How good is this wine?

I have always liked the wines of Sicily, ever since visiting for the first time in the early 1980s. Every little town had its own version of Nero D'Avola, and they were all supreme!

This version, NERO D'AVOLA CIELLO 2019, is one of the very best one I have tasted - well measured - balanced, full-bodied, with some fruit traces and missing the acidy after-taste I dislike. It isa wine which dies happily on your pallet. I think the price is also irresistible! Go for it!

  11. How good is this wine?

This is a great everyday natural wine. Benefits from a tiny bit of chilling and makes a fantastic wine for the price.

  12. How good is this wine?

A lovely drop full of fruit and gentle on the palate. Superb value for the price.

  13. How good is this wine?

Easy to drink, mild and everyone at dinner loved it.
I wasn't expecting such a lovely wine because of the price was very surprised. Definitely recommend it.

Our customers are just starting to get into natural wines and trying this though these bottles are not significantly selling well, I would rate this 3 out of 5, as they are reasonably good for its price and taste.

  15. How good is this wine?

    Mick Turnbull18/02/2019

The wine was bought as a gift who specifically asked for 'natural wine' - the wine has a distinct floral scent. We drank a few bottles over the course of the night. She was was delighted with our gift, saying it was her preferred choice at the restaraunt she runs! Lucky guess!

  16. How good is this wine?

    Charles Meunier22/02/2016

When first opened, it hits the nose with scent of flowers and passion fruit. The nose is quite unique among the wines I've tried. After long aeration, the nose unfortunately becomes muted, but the fruity flavours build up. Try drinking half of it at opening and save half for the next day, and experience the changes.
