Details

Cornas Rebelle Domaine de la Bruyeres 2016, organic wine, natural wine, 100% Syrah, old vines, stunning terroir, profound wine, Syrah at its Majestic best. The grapes are handpicked, sorted and destemmed before fermentation takes place naturally for approximately 30 days with gentle punching down. All the movement of the wine around the cellar is done by gravity. The wine is naturally clarified by racking from barrel to barrel and then ageing in takes place in old barrels for 24 months. Rebelle takes to the Syrah to its lofty highest when it shows its potential to be one of the world's finest red grapes. There is depth and richness, complexity, dark fruits, pepper etc but also sublime freshness which doesn't seem to take away from the body of the wine. Truly delightful, for those special occasions and fine dinners with some aged beef.

Domaine Les Bruyères has been in David’s family since the 18th century. Passed down from generation to the next, he started making wine with his mum after finishing his studies in 2000. He bought new plots, bringing the estate up to 20 hectares – plus 8 hectares farmed by friends (including Matthieu Barret down the road in Cornas) and converted to organic soon after. From 2003, he converted to biodynamic. All fruit is de-stemmed and then fermented in either old oak, steel or huge cement eggs. The wines are stunningly pure, elegant and easy drinking. Syrah at its best in the northern Rhone where the marginal climate for this often hefty grape produces wines with finesse which age beautifully.
