Details

Cotes du Rhone Rouge Mathilde Clos St Michel, full bodied, juicy Chateauneuf-style Cotes du Rhone. This estate de-stems about 50% of its grapes, aims for high extraction and ages in foudres for about 12-16 months. If you seek characterful Côtes-du-Rhône in the embryonic “Neuf” idiom then the supple Mathilde, (80% Grenache, 20% Syrah from 15-40 year old vines) all juicy jammy fruits (strawberry, plum and orange) with a hint of bitter olive, delivers the smoky bacon. It is also excellent value in a region where the good wines are going up and up in price.

Olivier and Franck Mousset represent the fourth generation of wine makers. They re-established the profound taste and close union between the vineyards and winery in the Chateauneuf du Pape area. Their spirit, energy and care accompanies every plant, tank and barrel during their daily transformation. The estate marries modern, sustainable farming methods with a desire to produce concentrated, deep traditional wines. Although not an organic estate, the approach is one of care and attention in the vineyard and cellar whilst respecting nature and the local environment.
