Cremant de Loire Rose Domaine de Veilloux NV, biodynamic wine, Pinot Noir and Gamay, Champagne Method, Fresh and Zingy but with delightful creamy texture, subtle red fruits and herbs. What a delicious glass of bubbles. Domaine de Veilloux is a fully integrated natural farm and their work and devotion comes from a deep rooted connection to the land and the traditions of their area. I was fortunate enough to spend 4 hours there tasting and eating the local pates and cheeses whilst sampling various vintages of their vast array of incredible natural wines. The Rose Cremant is a new addition, smooth, delicate, textured yet zingy, the red berry fruits are really subtle and the fizz perfectly balanced. Far better than Pink Champagnes at twice the price.

Based in Fougères sur Bièvre, Domaine de Veilloux is a family owned estate of 20 hectares of vineyards. The original domaine dates back to the 18th century when they produced all kinds of agricultural products like cereal and livestock as well as vines. Today, Domaine de Veilloux is owned by Michel and Silviane Quenioux with their son Arnaud working in the vineyards. The estate is managed according to natural principles using local grape varieties like Menu Pineau, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gamay. The soils are mainly made of clay but with little differences according to the plot eg clay with sand or clay with flint which make subtle differences in the final wine. Veilloux wines are respectful of their terroir and grape but also natural production and old vines yield wines which take time to mature to their full potential and even the whites are best at 5-10 years of age.
