Details

This fabulous mixed case of wines from Domaine de Courbissac paints a perfect picture of the terroirs of Minervois. There are 2 bottles of their classic cuvée, which is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre - this is a soft round style which oozes with Southern French Charm. Roc Suzadou comes from 70 year old vines of Grenache and Carignan aged in large foudre, and is also soft and elegant, but with a slightly more animalistic quality and aromas of Herbes de Provence. Roc du Piere is the firmest of the three reds, a blend of Syrah and Mourvedre, with wonderful tension. The Traverses Blanc, made from Listan (from Tenerife normally) and Terret Gris, is full of Mediterranean character and flavours like peach and apricot, fennel and other herbs. Finally, the elegant L'Orange is made from Marsanne and Muscat with 2 weeks skin contact, to produce a subtle, grapey, very fresh, uplifting, delicious entry point to orange wine.

Brunnhilde Claux runs the tiny 2.5 hectare farm of Domaine de Courbissac in Cesseras, the heart of the Minervois. It is a region famous for its schist soils and deep, rich but sometimes rustic wines. Brunnhilde has uncharacteristic 'Terroir', Grenache, Mourvedre and Carignan on clay and limestone and Syrah on sandstone soils. This unique 'Terroir', creates elegant Minervois wines. The work in the cellar is minimal save for a rigorous selection of only the plumpest, juiciest berries for the top 'Cuvee'. Fermentation is spontaneous, either whole bunch or partially de-stalked and without any oxygen. The fermentation is all in barrels and the wines are naturally clarified and matured in barrels. These are pure southern French wines at the best and most elegant. Excellent value for money for the quality and purity of the wine and these bottles will age well too.
