Franciacorta Brut DOCg NV La Montina, Metodo Classico wine, elegant, subtle and moreish Champagne style wine. Franciacorta La Montina is now considered to be one of the best glasses of bubbly produced in Italy. If you say to the good people of Franciacorta that they make Italian Champagne, they wouldn't be pleased but basically, this wine has many of the characteristics of its more illustrious counterpart from France. Fermentation takes place in barrels, and they use an old fashioned 'Marmonier' press for soft pressing. Long ageing on the lees in bottle makes for an elegant, subtle and moreish Champagne style wine. The Brut is a blend of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir with 24 months ageing in the bottle on the Lees. It is very fresh with underlying richness, soft stone fruits, citrus, toast and yeast. Delicious Fizz, for a celebration it makes many Champagnes seem dull by comparison.
La Montina produce some of the best sparkling wines in Italy, and whilst they may not always appreciate being compared to their French counterparts in Champagne, they certainly rival them for quality! They have always been committed to quality at La Montina, investing in 1999 in a huge 'Marmonier' wine press to make sure they extract the best quality juice. In the winery, no pumps are used, wine is transported by gravity alone.
They age for longer than the appellation laws decree and the yields in the vineyard are kept as low as possible. Michele Bozza now runs the winery having taken over from his father. Located at the beautiful Villa Baiana, Michele has raised the reputation of La Montina into the stars and yet the wines are still very reasonably priced.
