Magma Frank Cornelissen, Iconic Natural Wine, Low sulphur wine, 100% Nerello Mascalese, outstandingly complex and original wine from one of Italy's most notable natural producers. Magma was Cornelissen's first wine, only 500 bottles were produced in the first vintage nearly 20 years ago and some described this wine as a 'a bit wanky', how ifgnornt they were, this wine es Frank's first baby if you like, there was no holding back and time has shown that far from being wanky, Magma and Frank Cornelissen were visionary and exciting and still are today. These are un-grafted vines planted in 1910 on the north eastern plot of Barbabecchi. Only made in exceptional vintages, its the Grandest of all Grand Cru from Frank Cornelissen, oozing personality, intensity, elegance and style. The Nerello punches out liquorice and spice on the nose, intrigues with volcanic minerality on the palate and leaves you contemplating the depth and warmth of the mouth feel. It is also a wine for long ageing and although the price is high, the quantity produced is very low, a wine to savour and one which will reward your curiosity if you have the wallet to be led by it.

After his first vintage in 2001, Frank Cornelissen a Belgian whose become a Sicilian quickly established himself as one of the top producers in the world. Under the complete understanding that man will never know the true power of nature, he thinks of himself more as an observer than a winemaker. He believes that he is learning all the time from mother nature and that she is making him and his wines better each vintage. Describing Magma, his top wine Frank says... ‘The wine is produced in a non-interventionalist way, fermented and aged according to ancient traditions in terracotta vases of approximately 400 litres each, buried in the ground in the cellar and fixed with ground volcanic rock. My aim is to avoid all treatments whatsoever in vineyard, orchard and surroundings.' Using multiple plots on the northern valley of Etna, low grape yields & late harvesting help him produce his iconic territorial wines from local varieties. He has become something of icon himself within the natural wine movement and his vintages are highly sort after and sell quickly. They are truly representative of the unique wine making soils and climatic conditions to be found on Europe's highest volcano.
