Ghemme Nebbiolo Paride Chiovini, 100% Spanna (Nebbiolo), very elegant! The 2013 from Chiovini is rich and fruity with undertones of chocolate and tobacco, mint and red fruits. Intense flavour with soft and well-balanced tannins. The wine spends a minimum of 18 months ageing in French oak barrels and a further 6 months in the bottle. Ghemme has own distinct personality and marks it out from Barolo and the other Nebbiolos produced in the Langhe. It is superbly fresh and elegant and a complex wine which marries very well to refined cuisine.

Production at Chiovini was started in 1997 when Giuseppe Garibaldi took over his grandfather's vineyard as a hobby, gradually expanding to a full time venture, where he now holds 3 hectares of land. He grows Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Uva Rara (Bonarda) across his estate, which spans Ghemme and Sizzano. Many of his wines are named after Greek gods and heros of Ancient Greece to reflect their unmistakable personalities which all stem from a common root. Today the vineyard is maintained with respect for the land and all the operations on the vines are performed by hand. The vineyards are in Ghemme, one of the few regions of the World outside of the Langhe in which Nebbiolo can truly thrive and produce classy wines. Honest and full of style, these wines represent the true taste of Piemonte.

Gorgeous wine - pale, delicate and very quaffable, with a long, rich finish full of cured meat and smokey flavours.
