Gut Oggau Family Reunion Red 2016, biodynamic wine, rare bottling, Blaufrankisch, Zweigelt, a special and limited edition from a unique wine producer. The red Reunion is a blend of all the red grapes that normally go into Atanasius, Josephine, Joschuari and Bertholdi. The oldest and youngest vines together. The wine combines the intensity of the older red and the freshness of youth. Seamless red, fabulous balance, complexity and potential. Cellaring would be rewarded.
Gut Oggau is a 14 hectare Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake Neusiedl. The estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie, daughter of a 2 Michelin star restaurant owner. It is a certified biodynamic estate with each wine coming from a single plot of vines with different terroirs showing different expressions in the wine. The individual personalities of the wine are expressed in the faces on the labels created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and brought together in the Gut Oggau family tree. A unique and fascinating way of describing the wines, they taste every bit as intriguing as the labels suggest.
2016 was a vintage to forget for Stephanie and Eduard. Spring brought them heavy frosts and hailstorms happened during the summer. Autumn by contrast was peaceful, warm and forgiving, and in the end delivered tiny quantities of amazing quality grapes. 'To let our wines take it all in and tell the story of the year through their complex characters, we decided to let the family members unite, to go for a family reunion.' The result wines of cumulative energy, focused strength and collective finesse. The Spirit of youth and the wisdom of maturity united in this unique and limited bottling which tells the story of a very up and down year in the vineyards.

Me and my husband took a rare weekend away to Edinburgh for my birthday and visited The Timberyard where we had a tasting menu and wines paired up with each course. My husband chose this red as his favourite and right there and then we ordered a bottle online to arrive ready for when we returned from our weekend away. Now, when we drink this wine we will remember our precious time together and our lovely meal. The taste was paired so accurately with the dish we were eating. The smell and taste had a hint of chocolate, but not in a sickly sweet way, it was a mature flavour,
