Gut Oggau Family Reunion White 2016, biodynamic wine, rare bottling, Gruner Veltliner, Gewurztraminer, Welschriesling, Weissburgunder, a special and limited edition from a unique wine producer. The white Reunion is a blend of all the white grapes that normally go into Emmeram, Theodora, Timotheus and Mechtild. The oldest and youngest vines together. The white is still a baby, one feels the energy of the vineyard, senses the aroma of the Gewurz from Emmeram, one is cut by the acidity of the Gruner of Mechtild and the note of yeasty funkiness which is all Theodora is also present on nose and palate. Fascinating wine which you just keep drinking until the bottle is empty (pretty quickly). Cellaring would be rewarded.

Gut Oggau is a 14 hectare Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake Neusiedl. The estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie, daughter of a 2 Michelin star restaurant owner. It is a certified biodynamic estate with each wine coming from a single plot of vines with different terroirs showing different expressions in the wine. The individual personalities of the wine are expressed in the faces on the labels created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and brought together in the Gut Oggau family tree. A unique and fascinating way of describing the wines, they taste every bit as intriguing as the labels suggest.

2016 was a vintage to forget for Stephanie and Eduard. Spring brought them heavy frosts and hailstorms happened during the summer. Autumn by contrast was peaceful, warm and forgiving, and in the end delivered tiny quantities of amazing quality grapes. 'To let our wines take it all in and tell the story of the year through their complex characters, we decided to let the family members unite, to go for a family reunion.' The result wines of cumulative energy, focused strength and collective finesse. The Spirit of youth and the wisdom of maturity united in this unique and limited bottling which tells the story of a very up and down year in the vineyards.
