Details

Henners Vintage Reserve, a fantastic sparkling wine from this new English producer. The wine is very fresh but has intensity and plenty of autolytic character, biscuit, brioche, ripe stone fruit and subtle yeastiness. Delicious English Sparkler in the Champagne style. Henners Vintage is produced solely from grapes grown on their outstanding estate. They take a non-interventionist approach in the winery, made possible by the quality of the fruit. Vine clones and varieties are fermented separately to allow a broad pallet of wines for final blending. A proportion is fermented in aged oak barrels to add subtle character and layers to the wine.

Henners is based just 4 miles from the sea in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, and was started by Lawrence Warr, a former F1 Engineer. After 10 years of working with Boutinot as their distributor, Boutinot bought the estate and have continued producing high quality sparkling wine. The estate is 7 hectares, planted with traditional champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The estate's microclimate is ideal, created by the vineyard’s proximity to the sea, low altitude (only 24 masl) and steep, sunny, south facing slopes. Unusually for such a northern climate, they take a non-interventionist approach in the winery, made possible by the quality of the fruit. Vine clones & varieties are fermented separately to allow a broad pallet of wines for final blending. A proportion is fermented in aged oak barrels to add subtle character and layers to the wine. Reserve wines are selected for their quality and ageing potential, and then matured in bottle, adding complexity, richness and consistency of character.
