IGP Mediterranee Le Petit Fontainebleau Blanc Vermentino Chateau Fontainebleau, biodynamic wine, 100% Vermentino (Rolle), soft whites fruits, oily texture. Le Petit Fontainebleau Blanc is a delicious natural wine from the Var region of Provence just north of Brignoles. The name of the 16 hectare estate comes from the proximity to the river and the abundance of water in the subsoil meaning the vines suffer from less water stress in the height of summer and this helps the ripeness of the fruit and the delicacy if aroma. The white Le Petit Fontainebleau is 100% Vermentino (called Rolle) in this area. It is a warm, slightly oily texture and works beautifully well with soft goats cheeses and olive oil. The aromas are more tropical than citrus with ripe pear and just a whiff of 'Herbes de Procence'.
Owned by Jean-Louis Bouchard, with winemaking overseen by Valerie Courreges, Chateau Fontainebleau was a forgotten plot of vineyard gold until 2009. Since then, using biodynamic principles, the vines have been revived and winemaking has begun again. The 27ha of vines benefit from a natural amphitheatre and a unique terroir of red pelite, to create wines of finesse and quality that are typically Provencale. Due to the vineyard's configuration, the grapes can only be picked up by hand. This enables the domain to harvest parcels separately, letting others continue to ripen, and thus improving the production quality.
