Judith Beck OUT Blaufrankish/Zweigelt, organic wine, lively, fresh and very approachable natural red from Austria. Out meaning outside the Norm as this wine was considered unusual by the appellation system in Burgenland so Judith just pulled 'OUT' of it. This is a great example of how Austrian wines can have both finesse and drinkability, a delicious medium bodied red made from Blaufränkisch & Zweigelt with plenty of berry fruit and natural verve. The tannins are soft and the finish is spicy and fruity, not at all funky. The fermentation is natural in large wood barrels, and the wine undergoes natural malolactic which softens the palate and adds a creamy texture. It has energy and tension and can be enjoyed on its own or with all types of food.
Winery Judith Beck is a 15 hectare estate in Gols in Austria's Burgenland which has been farming biodynamically since 2007, aiming to respect the environment and produce the best quality grapes, using native Austrian varieties. Judith Beck herself studied abroad at places like Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux and Errazuriz in Chile but returned home to take over from her father and move the winery in the direction of natural winemaking. They encourage the formation of humus as a basis of healthy soils, using their own natural composts and cultivating grass between the rows. Herbal remedies are also used and the vines are maintained under the rhythms of the moon. In order to produce authentic wines, they also avoid inoculated yeasts of any kind, and minimise sulphur, fining or filtration, with her Bambule! range epitomising this philosophy. These are sentiments and ideas we like at Buon Vino and the wines are really delicious, fresh and also great value for money, from an up and coming area that is producing some really excellent produce.
