Judith Blaufrankisch 2017, biodynamic wine, no rules, pure, intense, rich, beautifully crafted natural wine. The top wine from the Beck catalogue, a rich, hedonistic yet still very fresh and elegant example of Blaufrankisch. Layers of dark fruits, some subtle spices and full mouth feel make it a lovely winter wine and the perfect partner to dark meats.
'Judith is a very personal wine. When I took over responsibility for the vinification from my father in 2001 I wanted to have a wine just for myself. A wine with no rules, that I could form exactly to my vision. Initially it was always a blend, now it’s a varietal Blaufränkisch from Gabarinza vineyard. It’s a wine that developed further as I developed as a wine maker myself and this is how I would like it to be in the future.' Judith Beck.
Winery Judith Beck is a 15 hectare estate in Gols in Austria's Burgenland which has been farming biodynamically since 2007, aiming to respect the environment and produce the best quality grapes, using native Austrian varieties. Judith Beck herself studied abroad at places like Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux and Errazuriz in Chile but returned home to take over from her father and move the winery in the direction of natural winemaking. They encourage the formation of humus as a basis of healthy soils, using their own natural composts and cultivating grass between the rows. Herbal remedies are also used and the vines are maintained under the rhythms of the moon. In order to produce authentic wines, they also avoid inoculated yeasts of any kind, and minimise sulphur, fining or filtration, with her Bambule! range epitomising this philosophy. These are sentiments and ideas we like at Buon Vino and the wines are really delicious, fresh and also great value for money, from an up and coming area that is producing some really excellent produce.
