Details

Le Campore Chardonnay/Sauvignon Il Pratello, biodynamic wine, 70% Chardonnay, 30% Sauvignon Blanc , barrel fermented and aged, this wine has nature's wild flavours oozing from every glass. This white is Chardonnay 70%, Sauvignon Blanc 30%, fermented in tank with some skin contact and then aged in 'barriques' for one year. The 2013 is still a baby and the oak is nice and creamy. With age, the wine will mature and take on a deeper colour and more earthy and textural feel. But don;t get me wrong, this is beautiful white wine now, soft stone fruits, notes of undergrowth and that nutty toasty oak perfectly well balanced.

Emilio Placci took over from his father in 91. He is a simple looking guy, a broad smile, a warm manner and always ready and willing to talk about his true passion, his wine. We are in Emilia Romagna, 600 metres above sea level, tucked away from any influence of intensive farming or chemical fertilisers. This place is nature in perfect harmony, wild thyme jostles with flowers, poppies, acacia, cherries and wild rose. The habitat is owned by the deer, squirrels and porcupines and Emilio sees himself as a guest, gratefully sharing in the bounty of this place. The soils are poor and sandy and the wine, made only with indigenous yeast is wild, rich and delicious. It is not trying too hard to be anything that will impress judges in the competitions across the world, at Pratello, they are farmers, labourers and keepers of the land. There wines reflect their honest endeavour and simple pleasures. They are delicious, marrying the sense of the earth with the style and quality of an instinctive wine maker, this is the kind of wine one aspires to drink every day.
