Marche Bianco Ca'Liptra, Verdicchio, Trebbiano, subtle and expressive, textured and layered, classic Verdicchio bitterness, lovely stuff. A wine which grows on you very quickly. At first tasting, the wine can seem a little quiet, innocuous, but closer attention reveals an expressive and very tasty white wine with an layer of depth which comes from the 2 weeks skin maceration that half of the grapes undergo. The Verdicchio is nicely bitter on the finish, subtle notes of toasted almond, citrus fruits, herbs come through on nose and palate and the texture is just lovely and crying out for something, Italian, rustic and a big bowl of it.
Ca'Liptra came about from the combined passion of 4 men in 2008 with the aim of producing wines which capture the authentic flavours of their grapes and region around Cupramontana in the Marche at around 500 metres above sea level and not far from the Verdicchio grapes homeland, the Castelli di Jesi. The name Ca'Liptra comes from the part of the vine's flower which protects it until bud burst. This tiny project is all about the beauty and nature of the artisan, working naturally and with care and passion to produce hand crafted wines which you want to drink over and over again.

This was my first time trying an orange/skin-contact wine and I was blown away. Totally unlike any “normal” white wine, it was soft, not overly dry and has a beautiful orange colour to it. One of those wines you could drink a lot of on a sunny day!
