Domaine Milan is an unequivocally iconic Provençal winery, with a reputation that utterly precedes it in both natural and non-natural wine circles. Situated in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Robert Milan established the winery in the 1950s, initially employing conventional farming techniques. The advent of the 1980s saw his son Henri assuming control, and with a characteristically pioneering spirit, he began to experiment with organic viticulture- at a time in which there remained, rather an air of suspicion about the concept. Officially taking the reins in 1986, and keen on doing things in his own way, he eschewed the Baux de Provence AOC to allow the freedom to produce wines to his own specification. Influenced by other icons in the natural wine world such as Claude Courtois and Claude Bourguignon, Henri began to vinify the different sections of his vineyard separately and moved further towards natural production.

In 2002, Henri progressed further and began to prohibit the use of chemicals in his vineyards. Instead, he adopted biodynamic farming techniques to create a diversified, balanced ecosystem. The commitment to natural practices, of course, also extends to the winemaking process. The wines produced are thoroughly minimal in intervention; avoiding the use of additional yeasts, fining, filtering, and negligible sulphites at bottling; and only if absolutely necessary. This non-intrusive philosophy allows the true character of the grapes and the terroir to shine through in their wines. Emmanuelle Milan, the third generation of the family, is now taking an increasingly active role in the winemaking process, perpetuating the family tradition of crafting natural wines that encapsulate the essence of their terroir.

A variety of grapes are grown under Henri's care, including Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre, resulting in reds that mirror the warmth of the climate, while maintaining subtlety, finesse, and delicacy. These wines evoke red fruit, herbaceousness, and wild floral aromas in a perfect harmony. The fleshy whites, retain a similar elegance, also maintain a freshness and minerality and are incredibly age-worthy.
