STAGE 7 – Tomblaine – La Planche de Belle Filles

The Vosges Mountains overlooking Alsace – Fleur de Lotus Domaine Josmeyer

This stage finishes on top of a low mountain in the Vosges which is becoming one of the most popular and iconic finishes of the modern era.  It is the site of the infamous battle between Bradley Wiggins and his own teammate Chris Frome in 2012, when Frome was forced to slow down and wait for his team leader Wiggins. Geraint Thomas showed his strength here in 2019 by dropping the bunch on the final slopes before losing the race to his teammate Egan Bernal.  And of course, in 2020 Tadej Pogacar stunned everyone by overhauling Prmioz Roglic in the final time trial to win the race at just 21 years of age.

This year, we think Pogacar will drop the race in the last kilometre and stamp his authority on the peloton but the stage will be won by the breakaway.  Our tip, German Lennard Kamna from Bohra Hansgrohe.

So the wine, we are overlooking Alsace here, famous for Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Grand Crus and Sauerkraut.  Our wine is a little different.  Fleur de Lotus, (Lotus Flower) is a blend of three aromatic varieties.  It is off dry, light, aromatic and deliciously textured in the mouth.  The slight residual sugar makes Fleur de Lotus ideal on its own nice and chilled for an apero but also versatile for all sorts of food.  If you fancy some Sauerkraut, it would be great, otherwise, try with a light green curry.
