Details

Outis Rosso Ciro Biondi, Natural Wine, Mount Etna, Volcanic Ash Soils, Old Vines, pure artisan, deliciously mineral and classy red wine. This is surely one of the most elegant of Etna red wines. It is made from Nerellos Mascalese and Cappuccio from old vines on volcanic ash soils high up on the slopes. In youth, it is fresh, lively, mouth sappingly satisfying with underlying complexity, minerality and structure. As the wine ages, it reveals its potential as an alternative (or maybe even rival) to great Burgundy or Piemontesi wines. Earthy, savoury notes combine with mature dried fruits and spice. Biondi production is tiny, Ciro himself is rightly proud of his artisan approach and the results he achieves from his once nearly abandoned family vineyard.

Ciro Biondi is a real colourful character, well travelled and married to and English woman, Ciro resides on his native Etna and cultivates tiny plots of old vineyards in the incredible black volcanic soil of the mountain. The vines are very old and his methods are natural meaning yields are low. Some years, barely 1500 bottles of this delicious white wine are coaxed from his vines. The red to is in short supply although more bottles are made. It is well worth buying some of Biondi's wines as they are the true taste of Etna and we tend to run out quick!
