Palistorti di Valgiano Rosso Sangiovese, organic wine, Tuscany, smooth, supple, elegant and delicious Sangiovese, pure Tuscan gold. A stunning natural wine from the hills around the beautiful town of Lucca in Tuscany. Sangiovese is a tricky grape, so often its sharp acid, tannins and sour fruit characteristics can yield a wine that strips rather than coats the mouth, (particularly when glugging from those cheap bottles in the straw basket, the Fiasc!). Well, there is absolutely none of that with this wine. Laura di Collobiano produces wines if sheer class and style. Beautifully crafted, soft Sangiovese which retains all of its authenticity and natural character but with luxury veneer which keeps you reaching for the bottle. For Tuscan wine lovers, this is a must try wine.
The story Tenuta di Valgiano started in 1992 when the ancient but disused estate was purchased by Moreno Petrini and his wife Laura. The estate is some 40 hectares with 16 under vines and Laura now produces just 3 wines, two red and a white from a mixture of local grapes, Sangiovese, Cannaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia, and some small plantings of international varieties like Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The farm is worked according to natural principles, organic and non-interventionist with certain processes following the biodynamic character. The farm has started to produce fruit of outstanding quality, thanks to the age of the vines and benefit of natural farming on excellent terroir - sandstone bedrock with calcareous, marl and limestone - and the results are evident in the bottles. These are wines with grace and poise, from a lesser known corner of Tuscany but a region producing wine every bit as serious as its more illustrious neighbours.
