Details

Pipeno Tinto A Los Vinateros Bravos 1 Litre 2018, natural wine from Chile, Pais, Cinsault, low sulphites, light and crunchy, a little bit wild! The grapes for this wine come from ancient, low yielding Pais vines grown on basaltic soils. They are hand-harvested and then fermented with native yeasts in concrete tanks and pressed in a basket press. They are then aged for around 14 months in large barrels made from native Rauli wood. There is a distinct characteristic of the wild grass that surrounds the vineyard, plenty of cruncy red fruits and a little bit of cassis. Unlike most Chilean wines, it is fresh and delicate, and has a lovely structure created by fine grained tanning. The finish is long with a distinctive mineral character which smacks of the volcanic soils from whence this wine hails.

The old Itata Hills have fantastic potential for making wines with unique character, that express this special terroir, with ancient vineyards planted over volcanic or granitic soils. Winemaker Leonardo Erazo seeks to express this terroir as fully as possible, by using organic viticulture, and natural winemaking so as to interfere as little as possible. “We feel like we don’t need to fix nature but rather enhance her capabilities, to enhance her potential. We want wines full of life, vibrancy, tension, freshness and joy”. Vineyards are un-irrigated and harvest done manually. After studying Agronomy and Enology at the University of Chile, Leonardo travelled the world to gain experience in winemaking, and even did a stint studying biodynamic methods in California. His wines are fascinating and have a distinct sense of place.

    Well I bought at a restaurant over Sunday lunch , and was so impressed that I went home and bought 10 bottles immediately , which then disappeared in no time ....
    need I say more!!
