Poivre d'Ane rouge Mas des Agrunelles, biodynamic, low sulphur, deliciously wild red wine made from Grenache and Syrah whose defining quality is the freshness of the fruit character. For a wine of this price, it ages beautifully and shows mature fruits, earth, subtle herbal notes and the aromas of sloe from the surrounding woodland. Delicious vin de terroir.

The story of Mas des Agrunelles is an incredible one. Frédéric Porro was an aspiring Motor-cross rider until an accident left him in a wheelchair. His disability led him to a new passion - wine - after his sister asked him to put together the wine list for he restaurant. From that moment on, he became devoted to the grape. Mas des Agrunelles came about from his collaboration with Stéphanie Ponson – owner of Mas Nicot – in 2005 near Murles in Languedoc. They usually say about it: 'we first met thanks to wine and now wine unites us'. The name of the estate comes from the fact that there are a lot of wild sloe trees around the vineyards and sloe is 'Agrunelles' in old occitan. The 18 hectares of vineyards are on a dozen of plots and the vines are planted on clay and limestone soils. Work is biodynamic in the vineyards with traditional methods of ploughing with horses and no chemicals at all.

2Reviews For Poivre d'Ane Rouge Agrunelles 2014

Nice wine, easy to drink, lots of fruit, no real sense of terroir - the cherry like taste could be Italian but very enjoyable.

  2. How good is this wine?

Not too heavy, a nice light red. Great flavour - everything in the description: fruit, forest, and sloe. Great with tomatoes and fennel. It's always nice to find a wine with sediment.
