Since 1984, Byron has cultivated an obsession for crafting site-specific Pinot Noir from distinctive vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills appellations. Nielson is the site of Santa Barbara’s first commercial vineyard, and has been Byron’s estate vineyard for over 30 years. This historic, cool-climate, benchland vineyard serves as a model for Santa Barbara’s viticultural experimentation and sustainable farming methods. Winemakers Jonathan Nagy and Ryan Pace, use high-end, small-lot winemaking techniques, such as hand pruning, block-by-block harvesting, barrel fermentations and lees stirring, in combination with fruit sourcing from some of the region’s most renowned vineyard sites to create expressive wines of character.
