Jason Ligas

Since ancient times, the region of Pella, situated in northern Greece, has been associated with wine, and the wines of Ktima Ligas capture the essence of this historic area. Jason Ligas, together with Thomas and Melissanthe, took over this estate with the intention of transforming the normally dull Roditis grape into something very special. By converting to natural farming and reducing the yield he was able to express the terroir and the show the potential of a grape that is normally over cropped and used for cheap jug wine. They have since turned their attention to other local grape varieties that have been more or less forgotten, including Kydonitsa and Xinomavro. They've also revived a number of winemaking techniques, such as amphorae and ageing under flor yeast. The soils are loamy, sand with very good drainage and the natural ecosystem in the environment is expressed in these stunning wines. They are all equally as impressive and offer a different spectrum of flavour to the traditional, well known grape varieties of France, Italy and Spain. Try these wines, they are really something.
