Les Cretes

There have been vines growing for wine up in the Valle d'Aosta since before the arrival of the Romans, and the Charrère family have been part of that history for around 300 years. The latest descendant of the family, Constantino and his wife Imelda set up Les Cretes as we find it today- expanding the winery and planting it with rare grape varieties indigenous to the region. They now have 20 hectares, and despite being one of the largest producers in the area, still work with respect for nature and traditional methods - their daughters still go around collecting ladybirds to release on the vines for pest control! This is one of the ways in which they are able to reduce pesticides. The terroir is unique, with the mountainous terrain, sandy soils and alpine temperatures, helping to produce unique wines.
