Springbank was established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s famous illicit still, and is now in the hands of the 5th generation of the same family.

Despite Campbeltown’s downturn in fortunes regarding whisky production, which saw all but 2 of the distilleries closed by the early 20th century, Springbank emerged as one of the highest quality producers in the region, and its reputation continues to grow today, reminding drinkers that Campbeltown is still capable of producing quality, distinct whiskies. In 2013 a bottle of 50 year old whisky distilled in 1919 was sold to a Chinese enthusiast for a whopping £50,000. Today, Springbank is one of only three distilleries operating in the Campbeltown area and is the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland.
