Amarone Moropio Antolini, rich, opulent, impressive, yet balanced. Amarone is classically full bodied, and this bottle is no exception, with impressive concentration balanced by acidity and freshness. We think that Amarone Moropio Antolini is one of the most perfectly balanced and elegant Amarones out there, and they’re using organic methods (which is always a plus in our views)! It is over 16% abv. but I reckon you can share a bottle at lunch no problem. Such is the freshness, fruitiness and superb balance.  Amarone Moropio Antolini is an Amarone that doesn’t disappoint. Will go excellently with your red meat and mature cheese!

Pier Paolo Antolini (call him Pierpy!) and his brother Stefano took over their family vineyard in the early 90s on the hills Marano, San Pietro in Cariano and Negrar in Valpolicella.

The 'Marogne', terraced vineyards cover some 7 hectares and are interspersed with olive and cherry trees. You find these scents immediately in the wines when you uncork a bottle! Their wines are in some ways modern being very bright and full of delicious fruity corvina aromas. However, natural farming and wild yeasts give these wines a genuine sense of identity. Although they aim for body and fullness of flavour. The brothers use very little new oak and the wines are very fresh. Both Amarones have stunning concentration and are awe inspiringly good. The Recioto is liquid gold and Antolini's Ripasso wipes the floor with many a more expensive example.

    This is not an everyday wine!. We enjoyed two bottles very much with Christmas dinner. It is a lovely complex wine – but be careful how much you drink – look at the alcohol content first. We are normally Burgundy drinkers and this distinctive wine made an interesting and eyeopening change. Cheaper than many other Amarones but I rate it excellent.

    This was an excellent wine and really enjoyed by all who tasted it at our Christmas dinner! A real stunner and very much worth trying as an alternative to a Barolo.

    We first discovered this wine at The Old Stamp House Restaurant in Ambleside (Lake District), the number 1 TripAdvisor rated restaurant in Ambleside, which is home to some great food and wine. We searched for the wine online after because it was so good! Some months later we were glad to find it on Buon Vino. An excellent wine for a special occasion, with or without food (we had it with the Hogget).

    Excellent wine. When first opened, the dominant nose is of alcohol, but after decanting and waiting 30 minutes this opens up nicely and offers up summer fruits with a hint tobacco. On the palate you can taste the fruitiness upfront which moves into a velvety smooth long finish, where you get a hint of the alcohol and a bit of spice. Pleasantly, this is a much more delicate expression of the often big and bold Amarone style, and would pair well with any less fatty meats – game or leaner cuts of beef and lamb. I will be ordering at least another case!
