Amarone Velluto Meroni Riserva, natural, rich, concentrated, authentic, deep, layered Italian red wine. Amarone Velluto is rare, elegant Amarone, made with natural yeast from grapes grown in the birth place of Amarone, Sant Ambrogio della Valpolicella. Velluto is a wine that inspires awe in the drinker. The dried Corvina grapes lose 30% of their water over the 4 months they are laid on mats to shrivel. The resulting grape is rich, highly concentrated in sugar and yet keeps its natural acidity to provide balance and freshness to the wine. Carlo Meroni uses the techniques that his family has used for generations. He ferments with no added yeast and matures in huge 30 year old barrels for 5 years.
The final wine is an incredible brew of dried fruits, mocha and coffee, wild flowers and liquorice. The palate is rich and opulent but the freshness of this nearly 10 year old wine is amazing. This is truly special wine and a must for Amarone lovers. Carlo makes around 5-6 thousand bottles of Amarone Velluto Meroni each vintage, a rare Vino da Meditazione !
