Biodynamic Austrian wine from Gut Oggau, Atanasius, Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch, fresh and elegant, fruity, alove, some residual CO2, possibility of a light petillance. Atanasius is made very simply in stainless steel with natural yeast to produce a stunning well balanced and vibrant red wine with Burgundy like finesse. When getting to know Atanasius 2018 he appears charming and open, affectionate and gentle. His appearance is attractive, not shallow, he has developed structure, but hasn’t tapped his full potential yet. Although with each passing year, Atanasius gets slightly more mature, fuller bodied and serious. Every vintage retains its confidence, straight forward nature and youthful spirit. The 2018 in particular is a return the essence of this wine, delicious red, impossible not to enjoy but young, a bit crazy and a bit wild. The 18 does have residual CO2 which gives it lift and great energy and freshness, and works well with the fruit character which bursts out of the glass.

Eric –
Prim black fruit, cherry, orange pith & earth sitting firmly in the pinot noir/nebbiolo range. A tiny wisp of wildness, no overbearing brett or VA or grousey game, but just a touch of something of mushroom and soil to remind you its grown in dirt and fermented. Long, elegant, tapering to a nice clean acidic finish that’s a food dream. Lovely with winter game & squash, but light and tight enough to carry into summer fruit and fish.
