Autumn Mixed Case – 6 Bottles. As the nights draw in and the wind gets up, we inevitably start to change what we look for in our glass of wine. Gone are the fresh, low abv, Pet Nats, crisp whites and Roses of the summer, to be replaced by deeper coloured wines with headier aromas and richer flavour. So, when the nights start to draw in, you can reach for a bottle from this fantastic selection to keep you cosy and feeling good this Autumn.
We have selected 3 whites which although not hugely intense are leaning towards the softer, fuller style with more mouth feel, a note of terroir complexity and creamy texture. The stay brave has a touch of skin contact which creates lovely mouth feel and the flavours to match some savoury, umami type foods. The Bloom CDR is a gorgeous glass of fruity yet layered white for white fish dishes with cream and fluffy potatoes and finally the new Chardonnay from Vini Fay in Lombardy. This producer is an old favourtire of ours, and only started making white wine up there in the Valtellina in the last 10-15 years. This is the perfect medium Chardonnay, from vines grown at 800 m asl, right on the limit for ripening this variety. They say great wine comes from struggle and these vines certainly have to, producing just 40 hectolitres per hectare of elegant, mineral white wine just kissed with oak.
For the reds, we have three superb value fuller bodied wines. Domaine du Pech down in the Buzet make lovely red from Bordeaux varieties, rich and warming, ideal for this time of year. La Mariole is made from 100 year old vines of Carignan and is earthy, rustic, juicy and delicious. Finally the new Montepulciano Valle Reale is a biodynamic red with a little more polish and elegance but not lacking in delicious red and black fruits and spice.
The perfect half case of natural wine for the Autumn, just drink it, chin, chin!
