Baglio Catarrato Ciello, Natural Wine, Orange Wine, 100% Cataratto, great value entry point for the Orange wine style. If you are not familiar with orange wines, then Baglio Catarrato Ciello is a great place to start without breaking the budget. No, it doesn’t have the finesse and style of a Radikon or Skerk. But this little Sicilian wine offers all of the characteristics of natural, orange wine at a fraction of the price. Made by the excellent people at Ciello in Alcamo, Sicily. Cataratto grapes spend a few weeks macerating with the skins during the wild yeast fermentation. The wine is bottled with low sulphur and no filtration. Savoury, pithy fruit character, herbs, ginger, spices and more abound. A great little glass of orange, ideal for fish curries and such like. Great with a ‘Pasta con le Sarde’, (Pasta with Sardines, pine nuts and raisins) the classic sweet and sour peasant dish from the region.

Finding Orange wine is not as easy as you think, not many places stock it,and when you do find it in a shop it’s usually over priced. I was given a bottle of Cataratto as a gift and then I was lucky to find that Boun Vino sold it online, and I would not need to pay over the odds and travel to London to buy it. The wine tastes of fresh apples, had no acidic aftertaste and goes well with light meat or even a salad. Loved it so much i bought 6 bottles.
