Blaye Blanc Mattieu Cosse 2023, natural white wine from Bordeaux, limestone and clay-based sols overlooking the beautiful Gironde estuary.  This is a new project from Biodynamic expert wine maker Mattieu Cosse.  The classic Bordeaux white blend of Sauvignon and Semillon grapes are spontaneously fermented and then matured for 9 months in old barrels.  The vines are in biodynamic conversion having been taken over by Mattieu in 2020.  The 2020 vintage was good, the 2023 is absolutely delicious and demonstrates the evolution of the vinyard towards its natural future.  The balance between up front fresh Sauvignon fruitiness and a more serious, layered and textural wine is simply superb.  The wine is still young and can be drunk in many ways, as an aperitif or with fish dishes.  With a little age, it will become much more serious.

Created in 1999, the Domaine Cosse Maisonneuve is the result of the association of two talented oenologists and winemakers: Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve.

Both took over a 5 hectares estate in Prayssac near Cahors which was planted with old vines of Malbec (also known under the name of 'Cot') and started making wines, well determined to produce genuine wines. They work biodynamically and the wines have a genuine sense of place and style that is lost in so many of the wines from the region.

Matthieu Cosse's new project is in the Cotes de Blaye region of Bordeaux.  The wines are made in collaboration with an old friend of his, Jérôme Ossard, who has been working in Bordeaux for over 24 years with winegrowers who want to really make the most of their best plots of vines. These particular cuvées come from plot selections of vines with a very high potential thanks to the quality of the terroir, resulting in exceptional grapes that in turn, produce high quality yet affordable natural Bordeaux wine.
